If you are like many people, this year has thrown a wrinkle into plenty of companies, businesses, and people’s plans. You put together your goals to make 2020 an amazing year. Now you’ve had to pivot. This doesn’t mean that you can’t cash in on your goals because the world has changed.

At the beginning of the year, when you were originally putting these goals together, you were probably looking to change a habit, or adapt and grow your business, or achieve something in your life that you have always wanted. You were motivated to make this happen.

How can you make sure that you keep focused to achieve the things you want, now that so many have changed? Here are a few things that you should be thinking about and asking yourself regarding each of your goals.

First, why do you have these goals in the first place? Are these goals for you or someone else? If you are putting together goals for someone else, you are setting yourself up for failure. Goals must be personal.

Second, what are the reasons for wanting to achieve this goal? Are you doing these goals for the right reasons? What are the fears that are currently stopping you? What can you do to get rid of that fear so you have a clear path to achieving your goal? If fear or doubt outweighs what you are looking to achieve, you won’t stretch outside your comfort zone to achieve your goals.

Third, don’t let life define what you want or who you are. You may have heard something from people like, “That’s just the way it is” or “This is what life has dealt me.” Success Magazine Editor and Dynamic Speaker Darren Hardy suggests, “Whatever you have in life is your fault.” Strong words, but true. It’s how you deal with life and what it throws at you that makes you who you are. When something doesn’t go your way, how do you handle it, like now? Do you sulk or do you do something about it? Be accountable for what you can control. Life rewards action.

Finally, imagine yourself achieving these goals. How would this change your life? Most people think of their goals, but don’t stop to realize how things will change. Sometimes it involves having new people enter your life, while others leave it. Sometimes people are jealous of the personal and professional success someone has. How will this affect you? How great will you feel once you accomplished your goal?

There is no magic formula (Ok, there is if you are involved with Sandler. Check out this Blog on Sandler’s Magic Formula for Success). Success comes from the inside. If you are looking to achieve your goals this year, you must be able to look within, put in the time, the hard work, and keep pushing. How much will you achieve this year? That answer is up to you.

What are you doing to pivot and still achieve your goals this year? Leave a comment. Let me know what you are currently doing to get there.
